Fine Gael Councillor George Jones has welcomed Minister Hogan’s announcement this evening of a reduced septic tank inspection fee once registered before the 30th June. The reduced fee will be €5 instead of €50 and the incentive for owners to register early is very welcome said Cllr Jones.

Many people living in Wicklow will be liable for this charge and the Minister has indicated that the legislation will be framed to minimise the impact on the householder who can be assured that if there systems are working properly there will be little impact from the new arrangements.

Cllr Jones said “residents who use septic tanks should have their systems working properly so as our ground water systems are not polluted and our environment is protected.

Cllr Jones praised the Minister for taking the incentive and he hoped that residents would avail of the cheaper charge before June deadline.
