LA TOUCHE LEGACY IN ASSOCIATION WITH CO WICKLOW LIBRARY SERVICE CELEBRATES 100 YEARS

Cllr George Jones Chairman of the La Touche Legacy said “We are delighted to associate with the Co Wicklow Library Service in celebration 100 years of the Greystones Branch.

On June 17th which is the exact date 100 years ago since Greystones opened its door as a public Library.

The community are invited to join us in the Library on June 17th to celebrate 100 years.

Cllr Jones advised that the current County Librarian Brendan Martin will give a lecture on the history of the three Carnegie Libraries in County Wicklow at 3pm on June 17th.

Andrew Carnegie (1835-1919) emigrated with his parents from Scotland to America in 1848. He was exceptionally successful in the steel business. When he sold his company he started to fund Libraries around the world and he gave close to $600,000 to Ireland to be used for Libraries.

Come to the Library on June 17th and hear the full history of the landmark site that is Greystones Library.
