LOCAL CHARGES SHOULD SEE IMPROVED LOCAL SERVICES

CAMPAIGN AGAINST LOCAL CHARGES MISGUIDED SAY’S JONES

Fine Gael Councillor George Jones has hit out at various campaigns that recommend non-payment of Property Tax, Septic Tank registration, former Household tax and proposed water rates. This type of campaign was run by left wing parties in past in relation to refuse charges and in the end in many cases the people ended up paying more said Jones.

Instead of this type of negative campaign it would be better if National & Local politicians demanded better local services to be provided by local authorities around the country.

Here in Wicklow with the reorganisation of Local Government it will be expected if people pay local charges such as a property tax and the proposed water rates that Wicklow County Council will be providing improved urban type services to all the large towns and villages that will be served by it.

Along with this expectation by the public the Council will need as a matter of urgency to review its staffing levels in all centres of population and ensure that suitably trained staff is available to deal with increased demands of the public. Cllr Jones said “it is still clear that there are areas in the county that do not have the key staff to deal with communities in these changing times”
