Tribute to Kevin Meehan



Cllr George Jones paid tribute to the late Kevin Meehan whose sudden death took place on Monday 9th September and burial after 11 Mass in St Peter’s Bray.


George Jones said Kevin Meehan over his working life provided a huge amount on the education front in North Wicklow, on two occasions in new start up schools Kevin was at the centre of events.

When the Christian Brothers arrived in Bray in the late 1950’s to open their secondary school St Brendan’s Kevin was the first Vice Principle and work there for many decades until he again opened a new school St Kilian’s where he was to become the schools first principle.


It was during his time at St Kilian’s that 30 years ago they commenced a twinning with Wurzburg’s Secondary School Matthias-Grunewald Gymnasium. Indeed Cllr Jones went on “Kevin as the driving force to ensure that the Town of Bray and County of Wicklow formed a successful partnership with the City of Wurzburg in Germany”   


Cllr Jones who is currently the Chairman of the Wicklow Partnership Committee said “the City recognised his major contribution to the partnership by awarding the City’s Partnership Medal to Kevin.


Kevin was also very involved in many community groups and sporting organisations all his life while living in his adopted town of Bray and the area has lost one of its finest citizens in Kevin’s passing said Cllr Jones.

He concluded his statement by expressing his sympathy to Brid (Kevin’s wife) and his son Daire.
