At a Fine Gael co-option convention held on Friday night in Shoreline Leisure Centre Greystones Grainne McLoughlin was selected to fill the vacancies on Greystones Town Council and Wicklow County Council following the election of Simon Harris to Dail Eireann.

Cllr George Jones who proposed Grainne for the vacant positions in an address to the convention spoke of the pride and delight of have three Fine Gael TD’s elected to this Dail and sent good wishes to Enda Kenny as he sets about restoring confidence and pride to the Irish people.

In proposing Grainne Cllr Jones said “while Grainne served on the Town Council from 2004-2009 she brought new ideas , energy, innovation and won Gold for Greystones in LivCom world awards. Despite not contesting the 2009 election because of personal reasons she still involved herself in many local community events and causes. Represented the Chamber on Community, Cultural and Social Development SPC , served on the Advisory Board of County Wicklow Partnership, Funding co-ordinator for Greystones Tidy Towns Burnaby Park regeneration project. Grainne organised the annual Greystones RNLI funding raising event along with the Greystones Experience Fest in 2009.

Cllr Jones said “Fine Gael Greystones are delighted that we have a community based person such as Grainne to be available to work on behalf of the people on both Greystones Town Council and Wicklow County.”
