George Jones is a native of Greystones and lives in the family home at La Touche Close in the heart of the town.

George was educated at St. Bridget’s Holy Faith, St. Kevin’s CBS and St Brendan’s Bray. George recently retired from RSA Group after a long career in the Irish insurance industry.

George Jones was first elected as a Fine Gael councillor to Wicklow County Council in 1979 and to Greystones Town Council on its foundation in 1984. Since he was first elected, George Jones has had a proven track record of always working unselfishly on behalf of the community of Greystones and district. Over a period of 30 years as an experienced public representative George Jones has been to the forefront of all campaigns that have brought, and continue to bring, real positive change to this area.

George has served as Chairman of Wicklow County Council on four occasions and currently is serving his sixth term as Mayor of Greystones. He also serves as Chairman of the Wicklow County Development Board, Greystones Home Help Services, Wicklow-Würzburg Partnership and the La Touche Legacy Committee. He is also a Board member of the Mermaid Arts Centre Bray.

George is married to Joan who, like him, is very active in the local community – she is involved with such organisations as the local Scout Troop, the Archaeological & Historical Society and the ICA. They have two sons Richard and Christopher.
